Knicks Steal Home-Court Advantage With Game 1 Win Over 76ers
Brunson and Hart Lead the Way for New York
Philadelphia, PA - April 16, 2023
The New York Knicks ended the Philadelphia 76ers' hopes of stealing home-court advantage Tuesday night, pulling out a narrow 104-101 victory in Game 1 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal series. Jalen Brunson led the way for the Knicks, recording 24 points, 8 rebounds, and 6 assists. Josh Hart added 21 points in the victory.
In the aftermath of their disappointing elimination in last year's playoffs, many expected the 76ers to make a deep run this postseason. Led by James Harden and Joel Embiid, they finished as the No. 3 seed in the East during the regular season and were widely considered to be one of the favorites in the conference.
The Knicks, on the other hand, were considered to be a long shot to advance out of the play-in tournament, let alone make it to the second round of the playoffs. But they defied expectations with a gutsy performance in Game 1, led by a strong shooting night from beyond the arc (12-23).
Embiid finished with a dominant performance for Philadelphia, recording 33 points, 14 rebounds, and 4 assists. However, his efforts were not enough to overcome the Knicks' balanced attack. Tobias Harris added 19 points for the 76ers.
The series will resume Thursday night for Game 2 in Philadelphia. The 76ers will be looking to even the series, while the Knicks will be seeking to build on their momentum and take a 2-0 lead heading into Saturday's game at Madison Square Garden.
