The Rise and Fall of Thomas James Whittaker
Arrival of Chapman Dominance
Thomas James Whittaker was born in Aldershot Hampshire and joined us in 1919 before becoming the club's first-team trainer under Herbert Chapman. Chapman's arrival marked a turning point in Arsenal's history, as he introduced new training methods and tactics that would help the club achieve unprecedented success.
Under Chapman's leadership, Arsenal won the FA Cup in 1930 after a run of 33 consecutive victories, which is the joint-longest winning streak in the FA Cup's history.
Decline of Whittaker
However, after the departure of Chapman in 1936, Whittaker's influence at Arsenal began to dwindle. He was replaced as first-team trainer by Jimmy Brain, and his relationship with the new manager, George Allison, was strained.
Whittaker left Arsenal in 1939 and later worked as a trainer for other clubs, including Watford and Brentford.
